LIONS CLUB OF EAGLE RIVER SLEEPING LADY MTN.

WORLD CLASS CENTENNIAL LIONS CLUB

Congratulations on growing your club during the Centennial Celebration!

Thanks to your efforts we will be able to serve more people in our next century of service.

From:  LIONS CLUB INTERNATIONAL.

SLML met special criteria during the Centennial Years of 2015-2016; 2016-2017;  and 2017-2018.  We inducted at least 3 new members who remained active throughout the Centennial Celebration and our club sponsored a new lions club (Centennial Veterans Club) that remained in good standing for a year & a day after the Centennial.

We are recognized by the limited edition banner patch and plaque as well as special certificates for each member that participated during the Centennial.

Thank you to all members for recruiting and retaining Lions, and for helping to organize a new Lions Club.

Sleeping lady lions Installation of Officers and Award Ceremony

2020/2021

While things were done a little differently this year due to Covid precautions, the SLL were able to move forward with their Installation of officers ceremony by holding it outdoors at the Lions Park.  Mother nature cooperated with beautiful warm weather and several of our members were able to attend via Zoom.

Congratulations to all our new and departing officers.  It is members like you who take a step into leadership that keep our great Lions Club growing and a part of helping our own community and those around the world.

THE CLUB ALSO HONORED THE FOLLOWING LIONS WITH SPECIAL RECOGNITION AND AWARDS

CONGRATULATIONS TO THEM AND ALL MEMBERS RECEIVING RECOGNITION FOR ALL YOU DO.

Lion Kris Jez  -   Club Appreciation

Lion Kris has been our club Treasure, Permit Chairperson, catering Chair and much more for over 30 years.  Kris retired this year after    30+ years with Hope Community Resources along with stepping down as Treasurer to take break and enjoy retirement life.  Although she stepped down, she continues to help with the club financial behind the scenes which is just like her.  SLL wanted to let her know how much she is appreciated and presented her with a thank you gift which included a gift certificate from AK Airlines, a Travel wine glass and 2 bottles of wine.

Lion Steve Deckert  -   Melvin Jones Fellowship Recipient

Lion Steve received the Lions highest honor the “Melvin Jones Fellowship Award” This award is named after Lions Club International founder, Melvin Jones.  Since joining the Sleeping Lady Lions, Steve has not stopped in his quest to provide community service not only to our community but all over the world.   This last year, The SLL Foundation donated funds to build “Rocket Stoves” for families in San Pedro Guatemala families.  Lion Steve traveled to Guatemala to provide assistance in  building and installing these stove for families that have no other means of cooking.

Lion Tracey Hupe  -  Lion of the Year

Lion Tracey is like the energizer bunny who keeps on going and going and going.  Tracey has the heart of a lion and someone who truly has the gift of helping her community in many different capacities.  Tracey heads up the ER Boys and Girls club and makes sure no child in our community goes hungry or has a place to go if they need it.  Upon joining the lions club, Tracey has jumped in with both feet taking on several board positions including president and chairs/Co-chairs along with many of our service projects.  Tracey does all this with a smile on her face and kindness in her heart.

Thank you Sleeping Lady Lions for caring for our Seniors at the Chugiak Senior Center.  Prepared and delivered "Hug in a Mug" to 18 Seniors and a couple of care helpers.  Lion Karen would like to continue this for our Veterans.  Please contact Karen if you would like to help or find out what items she is needing donated.
